Privacy Policy

CoolGuru.ai (“CoolGuru”, “we”, “us”) is a study app for CBSE Class 9 and Class 10 students. CoolGuru is currently in beta.

A parent or guardian creates the account and adds a profile for each child. Children do not sign up on their own, and we do not ask them for an email address or phone number.

This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By using CoolGuru, you agree to this policy.

• Your account: email address, phone number if you add one, language and notification settings. Your password is stored by Google Firebase, not by us.
• Child profiles: the name or nickname you enter, age if you add it, class and an avatar.
• Learning activity: lessons opened, practice and worksheet answers, scores, progress, streaks and badges.
• AI tutor chats: questions typed, images uploaded, and the answers given.
• Things you send us: feedback and reports, emails and referral codes used.
• Technical information: IP address, browser and device type, and server logs, used for security and to fix problems.

• To create and run your account and your child’s profiles.
• To show lessons, score practice, track progress and answer AI tutor questions.
• To fix mistakes, prevent misuse and enforce usage limits.
• To understand how CoolGuru is used so we can improve it.
• To keep CoolGuru free, including by showing ads (see section 6).
• To meet legal obligations.

• We do not sell, rent or trade personal data.
• We do not use a child’s learning activity, chats or profile to target ads.
• We do not share a child’s name or your email address with advertisers.
• We do not ask children for their own email address or phone number.

We use Google Analytics to understand how people use our public and parent pages, such as the home page, sign-up and these policy pages. It stays off unless you turn it on. We do not use it on the pages where children study.

When it is on, Google receives the pages visited, a few button clicks, a random browser ID stored in a cookie, and basic browser and device details. It does not receive your email, a child’s name or a profile ID. If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, we keep it off.

We also keep simple usage records in our own systems, for example which lessons are opened and which worksheets are finished, to improve CoolGuru. These are not shared with Google.

CoolGuru may show ads. Ads may be provided by Google or other advertising partners. To show and measure ads, these partners may use cookies and receive basic browser and device details and the page the ad appears on.

We do not show personalised (targeted) ads on the pages children use for learning, and we never give advertisers a child’s name, learning activity or chats, or your email address.

An ad is not a recommendation from us. If you click an ad, you leave CoolGuru, and the other website’s own terms and privacy policy apply. You can learn how Google uses information from sites that show its ads at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

To answer a question, we send our AI provider the question, earlier messages in the same chat, the class level, related chapter material and any attached image. We do not send the child’s name, your email or your phone number.

We cannot control what a child types or photographs. Please ask your child not to share personal details, such as their full name, address or phone number, in the AI tutor.

Our team may review a chat to fix a reported or unsafe answer, or to prevent misuse.

We use these service providers to run CoolGuru:

Some of these providers are located outside India, so your data may be processed in other countries.

We may also share information when the law requires it, to protect someone’s safety, to enforce our Terms of Use, or as part of a merger or sale of CoolGuru.

We use cookies and browser storage that are needed to keep you signed in and remember your settings, such as which child’s profile is active. Google Analytics cookies are used only if you turn analytics on (section 5). Advertising partners may use cookies when ads are shown (section 6). You can clear or block cookies in your browser, but CoolGuru may not work properly without the ones needed to sign in.

We keep your information while your account is open. You can delete it yourself:

• A chat: delete it in the AI tutor. It is permanently erased after 30 days.
• A child profile: delete it from Edit profile. This removes the profile and its learning history.
• Your account: delete it from Profile → Account details. This removes every child profile on the account.

You can also email [email protected] from your registered email address and ask us to do it. Copies in our backups are removed as those backups are replaced. We may keep some information for longer if the law requires it.

Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, anyone under 18 is a child, and a parent or guardian must consent to the use of their data.

By adding a child’s profile, you confirm that you are 18 or older, that you are that child’s parent or legal guardian, and that you consent to us using their information as described in this policy. If we learn that a child has created an account on their own, we will delete it.

You can ask us to:

• Tell you what personal data we hold about you and your child.
• Correct or update anything that is wrong.
• Delete your data, or withdraw your consent.
• Let someone you nominate use these rights for you if you die or become unable to.

Email [email protected] from your registered email address. We may need to confirm you are the account holder. Withdrawing consent does not affect what we did before you withdrew it.

If you are not happy with our response, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

We use reasonable safeguards, such as encrypted connections and restricted staff access, to protect your information. No website or app is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee that your information will never be accessed without permission. If a breach affects your data, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.

We may change this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top shows when it last changed. If we make an important change, we will let you know in the app or by email. If you keep using CoolGuru after a change, the updated policy applies.
